Kathryn Adel, MS, RDN, CSSD, LD

Kathryn is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, a gut health specialist and a Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD). She holds degrees in both Kinesiology and Nutrition, as well as a Master’s degree in Sports Nutrition from Laval University in Canada. After accumulating at least 2000 hours in Sports Nutrition and passing a national examination, she was able to obtain her Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) certification. She is a Low FODMAP Certified Dietitian by Monash University and a certified Health Coach by ACE Fitness.

She is also an accomplished athlete, having ran track and cross-country at a national level, and now focusing on longer distances. She works extensively with athletes of all levels, helping them achieve optimal performance through personalized approaches. Kathryn is also trained to help endurance athletes who suffer from gastrointestinal symptoms during exercise. Her extensive training and experience in Sports Nutrition along with her personal experience as an endurance athlete allows her to help athletes achieve peak performance.

Kathryn’s first nutrition position was at the MAA sporting club and medical clinic in Montreal where she worked as a Sports Dietitian and Clinical Dietitian. She also worked extensively with sports teams and athletes of all levels, helping them achieve optimal performance through personalized approaches. She was a volunteer Dietitian for the Cancer Research Society, providing nutrition advice to participants doing a sports challenge to raise money for cancer. She managed a weight loss group and led group presentations to various organizations on healthy eating and sports nutrition. Over the years she developed a keen interest for digestive health and has helped hundreds of clients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). She is part of the FODMAP Everyday Success Team of Registered Dietitians.

Kathryn moved to Charleston, SC in 2016. She started working remotely with clients from Canada and Europe through a company called SOSCuisine.com and is currently the director of SOSCuisine’s nutrition team.

Kathryn currently works at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) as an Outpatient Dietitian and owns her private practice, FitWave Nutrition. Kathryn currently provides nutrition counseling services for clients residing in the USA and Canada, in English and French, in person at her office located in Daniel Island, SC or via video conference or phone.

Kathryn is a Partner Dietitian with Axes Performance Coaching (www.axesperformancecoaching.com). Axes provides personalized training, sports assessments and focused client/coach meetings as part of collaborative, one-on-one multi-sport athlete-coach relationships. Axes welcomes individuals of all backgrounds and fitness levels so long as they bring commitment and an intention to create something significant through sport. Kathryn is also the Sports Dietitian for a major running club in Montreal. Outside of her work, Kathryn is an avid runner, surfer and traveler.

Kathryn is a member of the Ordre Professionnel des Nutritionnistes Diététistes du Québec (ODNQ) and of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), including the Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutrition practice group and the Dietitians in Gluten and Gastrointestinal Disorders practice group. She is also a member of the Charleston Trident Dietetic Association.

Melissa Ohlson, MS, RDN, LDN

Melissa Ohlson is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, and Certified Personal Trainer. She holds an undergraduate degree in Nutrition, Fitness & Health from Purdue University, as well as a Master’s degree in Nutrition from Case Western Reserve University. She trained with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in order to offer clients an integrated, multi-faceted approach to wellness. She holds her personal trainer certification with the National Association of Sports Medicine (NASM). Melissa is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the Sports, Cardiovascular & Wellness, and Vegetarian Nutrition dietetic practice groups. She is also a member of the Charleston Trident Dietetic Association.

Melissa’s career began in corporate wellness, working in worksite health promotion. She conducted corporate-wide health screenings, created wellness programs for businesses, provided one-on-one counseling, and large-scale educational programs. After her tenure in corporate wellness, Melissa worked for 14 years as the Nutrition Program Coordinator for Preventive Cardiology and Rehabilitation at the world renown Cleveland Clinic. In this extensive role, Melissa counseled patients at risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD), was involved with studies involving the role between diet and CVD, and authored numerous peer-reviewed and lay person published articles. Melissa was often interviewed on local and national television stations for her expertise in nutrition; quoted in mainstream magazines such as Shape, Eating Well, and Prevention; was a national spokesperson for Unilever/Promise Spreads; and co-authored the Cleveland Clinic Healthy Heart Dietary Lifestyle and Cookbook. She also helped develop protocols for the eClevelandClinic’s first online nutrition counseling service. After the Cleveland Clinic, Melissa co-owned a nutrition food company, Clean Eats, LLC, making delicious energy bites for 6 years.

Melissa is currently working with FitMed Partners, LLC on Daniel Island, conducting nutrition and fitness assessments, counseling clients on strategies to enhance longevity, and incorporating nutrigenomic analysis. She is thrilled to join Fit Wave Nutrition to continue to assist client’s in helping achieve their health and wellness goals. Melissa is active in tennis, weight training, and is an overall fitness enthusiast. She has lived in Charleston, SC since 2007 with her husband and three children. She believes in the power good nutrition and a physically active lifestyle plays in prevention of disease and extending healthspan, and is passionate about helping people reach their health potential!
